Resource Legislation Amendment Act 2017
The Resource Legislation Amendment Act 2017 (RLAA) introduces significant changes to the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA), which are intended to improve alignment and integration across the resource management system, enable more proportional and adaptable processes, and promote robust, durable decision-making.
The changes to the RMA include, but are not limited to, new plan-making pathways, housing related changes (consents), increased Māori Participation/Mana Whakahono a Rohe, new national direction - National Planning Standards, and the removal of financial contribution provisions. These changes will have an impact on all territorial, regional and unitary authorities’ strategic and operation policies, and elected officials have an important role in making and reviewing a range of these policies.
